Rain Glorious Rain

Today was one of the best days of my entire life. I wore a huge grin from beginning to end.

I crossed over the top of the Aubrac mountains in a pea soup fog, with nonstop blowing rain and a windchill close to freezing - and it was magnificent! Glorious, in fact!

Of course, we never, ever have fog where I live, so finding the world around me hidden in mysterious obscurity was magical.

The trail through the open moors was marked every fifty yards by posts with streamers, so that the route could be found even under a fresh layer of snow. Luckily, there was no snow today because I often could not see as far as the next marker.

Why was I so happy? Because of the unusual (to me) beauty, because I got to challenge the elements, because I was warm and comfortable, and because I knew that I had a nice hotel room waiting for me at the end of the day.

Have I mentioned that I'm in heaven?
