Wait for It

I saw celebrities on my walk yesterday evening. And one of the better sand sculptures to grace a south Maui beach. Plus the wait was worth it since the sky didn't light up until about a half-hour after sunset.

Heading In

It feels like ages since my last actual ocean swim, but yesterday I got out in spite of less than optimal conditions. After seeing almost nothing the entire length of my swim, I was thrilled when this little guy swam right up to me just as I was heading in to shore.

In and Out

Big waves translated to not very clear water this morning, which means that most of us cut our ocean swim short. At least the adventure of getting into and out of the ocean was fun.

Fine Dining

Maui's resorts provide the option for some spectacular dining sites. I conveniently did not show the hordes of resort guests all around the area watching the sunset - and the diners.

I Hear Singing

Humpback Whales are definitely here in force. I see them every time I go out and sometimes even when I glance out the window. I also hear them singing every time I go into the ocean.

Lots of people are lining up on the shore most evenings for sunset.

The Maui's Pink Cap swimmers fun group was treated to an extended swim with a friendly Manta Ray yesterday. And the best part was it kept leading us in the direction we wanted to go.

Very few people showed up to celebrate Malcolm's birthday, even Malcolm was absent. But, despite threatening weather, conditions were exceptional.

Troubles Forgotten

I somehow managed to get out into the ocean yesterday afternoon during a pause in the winds. Most of the day winds were gusting out of the north, then I was blessed with a half-hour of calm and I made a dash for the beach. Halfway through my swim, gales began blowing out of the south and I struggled to make it back. But I forgot all my troubles when I encountered a Spotted Eagle Ray and several Green Sea Turtles.

Newest Toy

This year's new toy on the beach is the hydrofoil motorized surf board.

Or you can always go old-school.

First Swim of 2020

Maui's Pink Cap swimmers started the year off right with a swim at Ahihi. Coach Dave, who just returned from a visit to D.C., said he let out a yelp when he unexpectedly came face to face with Christine in the Smithsonian. Apparently, our group underwater photo is still prominently displayed there, greeting visitors at the top of an escalator.

Final Sunset

The top photo was the final sunset of 2019.

The other two were after and before.
