Delicious

The Maui Pink Cap Swimmers were out doing their thing again this morning (But of course, why wouldn't they? It is Sunday after all.)

The ocean was deliciously warm. Mmmmmmm.

Mermaids at Ahihi and Beyond

I had the good fortune of being allowed to join the Maui Mermaids as one of their hangers-on this morning. We began at the only truly black sand beach in South Maui and hugged the shore until we were way, way out.

Ahihi is a marine reserve, so we saw lots and lots of fishies, including some big ones on the periphery of our vision. No one was quite sure of what we had barely glimpsed - and maybe it was better not knowing.

Silky Smooth Embrace

The ocean welcomed the Maui Pink Cap Swimmers with a glassy-smooth silken embrace this morning. What a joy skimming along with no resistance.

Besides a few turtles, we encountered some spectacularly purple coral.

Giggling Mermaids

This morning there were turtles, turtles and more turtles. I easily lost count early in the swim.

There were also joyful mermaids who even came up for air in a water cave along the way.

Sadness and Joy

I count myself as being extremely fortunate for getting to swim with Maui's Mermaids (and their hangers-on) this morning.

We were saddened by our encounter with a seriously ill sea turtle, but a Hawaiian chant and some poetry got our hearts soaring again.

Our friendly Shark, who Rosanne has named Don, was moving a little too quickly; I guess it was feeling overwhelmed by so many high-spirited visitors.

Schooling While School's Out

Maui cooperated and gave the Pink Cap Swimmers yet another absolutely perfect morning for an ocean swim today.

Now that school is out we got to welcome Haley back into the ocean. We also got to celebrate the very sexy Sandy's birthday.

Three Times

Three times this morning I dove down deeeeeep to try and say "Hello" to Bruce, and three times she turned her back on me and swam away.

This turtle seemed to be enjoying the tickling bubbles of scuba divers down below.

Snowflakes in June

I got to swim with friends out in front of my house this morning.

We saw many, many green sea turtles and two different Snowflake eels.
