Something New

The Maui Pink Cap swimmers decided to mix things up and headed all the way over to the West Side for our weekly Sunday ocean swim. We saw lots of critters, including some which were new to us. I'm glad we ventured out of our normal comfort zone.

Especially Summer

I thoroughly enjoyed a beautiful morning ocean swim today.

The water was clear, warm and flat with lots of fishies and turtles.

I love getting into the ocean here, but especially in summer.

Deep into the Slot

Maui's Pink Cap swimmers decided to try a different location for yesterday's ocean swim.

Carl visited us for the first time in eons and he, Ben and Kimi even ventured deep into the Slot.

Loving Wednesdays

This shark was playing hide-and-seek with me this morning, swimming in and out of coral heads along the way.

I also saw lots of turtles, including the rare Hawksbill (last photo).

I'm LOVING my Wednesday morning ocean swims.

Reflective Swim

What an exquisite morning for an ocean swim. We saw loads of green sea turtles and a most unusual Tiger Moray eel. We were also enjoying the reflections off the underside of the glassy surface.

Still Quiet

There still aren't many people on the beach. That may all change after the quarantine is conditionally lifted for tourists on September first. We shall see...

Lip Piercing Pain

I'm worried about this White Tip Reef Shark which has a big hook caught in its mouth. I first noticed the shark and its lip piercing last Wednesday, and it was still swimming around with its mouth open this morning. The only problem is that there is no way I'm going to dive down and try and get the hook out of its mouth with my bare hands.

Night Blooming Cereus continue to awe me with their huge blossoms of more than twelve inches. And there are hundreds of them along the rock walls at Keoneoio.

Big Octopus Swim

Yesterday, the Maui Pink Cap swimmers discovered the biggest octopus I've ever seen. It was bold, too and seemed to have no interest in hiding.

The water was clear and warm, a perfect morning to spend in the ocean.

In the Trees

The large number of feral cats in our neighborhood have been increasing by leaps and bounds, especially during the pandemic. This was the first time I noticed them gathering in the trees.

I have always enjoyed the nautical theme of this house just down the street.

And our Starfruit tree is GOING OFF. Many of its branches are bent nearly to the ground under the weight.

Current Hangers

Three Spotted Eagle Rays were hanging in the current this morning and didn't seem to mind my presence at all.

I am so happy being able to get out in the ocean on Wednesday mornings. What a treat.

Puzzling

The pandemic has found us (well, mostly Doug) attempting to correctly assemble jigsaw puzzles. He was zooming through the neighbor's puzzles so quickly that I decided to purchase some that were a bit more challenging. They only slowed him a little and now it's time to look for a new challenge.

Happy Birthday, Anne

Some of Maui's Pink Cap swimmers and lots of critters gathered this morning to wish Anne a Happy Birthday.

Spectacular Green

This was one of the most colorful crab molts I've ever seen. The green was spectacular.

I've never noticed so many sea grapes ever before.

The tide was lower than usual and the number of spiny sea urchins was staggering.
