Too Seldom

Doug joined me on my Saturday morning walk through the neighborhood. This is his favorite view of his favorite hill.

Makena State Park is less than two miles from our house, yet we never seem to visit it.

Not Very Tasty

This morning I was lucky enough to encounter a critically endangered Hawksbill sea turtle, who looked happy as a clam.

A school of ominous Omilu swam past me a few times to determine if I was tasty enough to bother with.

Strangely enough, this Trumpetfish would rather hang out with similarly colored Yellow Tang than with other Trumpetfish.

Fun With Turtles

Maui's Pink Cap swimmers encountered lots of turtles and pretty fishies this morning. The crowd was small, but loads of fun.

I Passed

After swimming for what felt like weeks without seeing any larger sea creatures, I was rewarded this morning by a visit from EIGHT Spotted Eagle Rays.

They were friendly and curious; often swimming right up to me to check me out. I think I passed.

Happy Birthday Danny

Maui's Pink Cap swimmers celebrated Danny's birthday this morning with a most challenging ocean swim.

The chop was gnarly, I often struggled to get a gasp of air, and I certainly swallowed huge amounts of sea water.

Fun, though.

As Always

It was, as is almost always the case here on Maui, an exquisite morning for a walk.

The rainbow shower trees along my street are totally going off.

And we're still having the occasional nice sunset.

Turtles Turtles Everywhere

Maui's Pink Cap swimmers got to see lots and lots of green sea turtles this morning. And a few other interesting critters as well.

Both Ways

After being a ghost town for the past year, Maui has pretty much returned to normal.

I like it both ways.

Say Hi

In spite of a high surf advisory, conditions were quite lovely for an ocean swim this morning.

I haven't seen many large creatures recently and what made it really nice was that both the Omilu and the Spotted Eagle Rays swam up to me to say HI.

Mystery

For some reason, almost no one showed up for our weekly swim this morning. Conditions were great, the water was very clear, there were no waves and only a gentle breeze was blowing. Where was everyone? It's a mystery.

Stately

Kiawe are normally just scrub which sometimes grow large before toppling over and continuing to grow. But if they are carefully trimmed over many years, they actually become rather stately.
