Very Friendly Hawksbill

Hooray. I got to swim in the ocean this morning. I am thrilled.

I encountered lots of turtles, most of them young and small.

But the best part was the endangered Hawksbill turtle which swam right up to me to check me out (top and bottom photo). Great day.

Yin and Yang

The sky was trippy after sunset after the hurricane yesterday. It was divided in two, dark and light, for no discernible reason. Far out, man.

Batten Down the Hatches

Only three of us showed up for the weekly Maui Pink Cap ocean swim this morning. Everyone else was battening down the hatches in preparation for the arrival tomorrow of hurricane Douglas. I had already brought everything inside, filled my coolers with water and charged my batteries. Bring on the storm.

Conditions were exquisite and we saw lots and lots of green sea turtles.

Warmed Up

The ocean was unusually calm for afternoon in Makena, so I went for a brief swim yesterday.

The water has definitely warmed up (hooray!) and it was great seeing my turtle friends once again.

Mixing it Up

Tired of the confines of lockdown, Maui's Pink Cap swimmers headed up to Napili Bay in search of the Cliff House yesterday.

Even though we were still on Maui, it all seemed so different. It was fun mixing things up.

Not Us

Certain exercise groups do not believe that the pandemic applies to them.

Interesting tree by the church just down the street from me.

View near my house.

Into the Woods

Maui's Pink Cap swimmers opted to avoid the risk of getting stung by Box Jellyfish this Sunday, and hiked through the Makawao Forest Reserve instead.

The top photo is a carefully put together composite of multiple photos in which all non-couples were safely distant from each other.

I keep forgetting how many different magical places we have on Maui. Maui no ka oi.

Smokey Skies

Yesterday's big brush fire helped the afternoon sun create some glorious angel rays.

Night and Day

I am confined to getting most of my exercise in the evenings these days. The views across the ocean are far more dramatic with the sun glaring off the water and lots of heat clouds; not like this morning with lots of glorious color.

Yesterday, Doug and I ventured up the mountain to hike in the rare treat of a cool deciduous forest. Yes, I love being surrounded by palm trees, warmth and sunshine; but walking through a chilly mist brought fond memories of growing up in the midwest.
