Luminous and Translucent

I was thinking that the flower photograph from last week would make a nice black and white metal print. I like the luminous and nearly translucent quality of the petals.

Ray Filled Day

Most of the Maui Pink Cap Swimmers encountered four different Manta Rays on this morning's ocean swim.

Three of us swam a different route and missed all but one; but one Manta Ray was plenty fun for me.

One Night Only

Night-Blooming Cereus went off last night and were still mostly open this morning.

I still have not figured out what triggers them, but they all flower at once for one night only, then do nothing for months.

Part of what fascinates me about them is how huge the flowers are.

Free Morning

A client canceled on me today, which means that I suddenly had the morning free to hang out at the beach and in the water.

A perfect combination of sun and clouds kept the temperature perfect - I was in heaven.

This morning the Maui Pink Cap Swimmers got to help Danny celebrate his birthday out in the ocean, which cooperated with clear, warm, flat water.

Doing Laps

One of our neighbors has generously been allowing Doug to use their pool to get exercise while recovering from foot surgery. Not a bad location.

Better than Mine

Just a couple shots from a photo shoot earlier this week. The home I was photographing has an even better view than my house does.

Blowing and Crashing

Swimming with Maui's Mermaids (and hangers-on) is always a huge treat for me. They swim at exactly my pace and like to stick together as a group.

Our return was challenging due to blowing spray and crashing waves, but we all made it.

Our lobsters may lack claws but they more than make up for that deficiency with lots of color.

Downright Otterish

Those Maui Pink Cap Swimmers who were not away on summer vacation, luxuriated in the warm ocean water this morning. In fact some of us were feeling downright otterish.

Almost a Mile

Yet another glorious morning on Maui.

My usual walk along the shore includes Keawakapu beach, which is almost a mile in length. All three of today's shots were taken at that beach.

What Price Paradise?

People were jumping from the rocks as I swam by this morning; but maybe they should have looked before they leaped. On the climb back up they impaled themselves on nasty sea urchin spines, which cannot be removed. Ouch.

I watched as the turtle on the left (second photo) pushed its way under the turtle under the anchor. It finally manged to dislodge the anchored turtle to get a prime parking spot.

Turtles were vying for prime cleaning spots on Turtle Rock this morning.

Swan Sighting

Swans are not native to this part of the world, so it was a treat to see one gliding across the ocean surface this morning.

One of the resorts was holding a painting class along the shore today.

Lazy July Swim

Between warm weather and warm water, the fun group of the Maui Pink Cap Swimmers was moving mighty slow this morning. In fact we didn't arrive at the water's edge until the fast group was long, long gone.

Click HERE for a couple more photos from today's ocean swim.

New Friends and Old

I'm glad the Racoon Butterfly fish are still hanging around.

I met a Hawksbill Turtle I've never seen before.

Plus the usual suspects.

Delicate & Pretty

The Monkeypod tree produces large, ugly, very, very messy seed pods every spring. So how is it that their flowers are so delicate and pretty?

On the other hand, this Anole wasn't looking very pretty at all.

Sooooooooo Good

It felt soooooo good to be back in the ocean this morning.

I've been sidelined by an injury combined with an extraordinary amount of work the past few weeks. Hopefully, everything is now back to normal.
