Death Approaches

A giant Black Witch moth was perched above our garage door this morning. They are so big that I mistake them for bats when they are fluttering around at dusk. Legend says that they are harbingers of death, they are called Mariposa de la Muerte in Spanish, so I may not be much longer for this world. If only this were south Texas. There, if one perches above your door, you will win the lottery.

  2. They are considered aumakua when seen shortly after someone passes. Normally, they look like a solid dark brown, but I was able to use the camera's flash on this one which brought out the colors.
What do you mean? It never rains in Hawaii
