I'm not sure if this was a: defensive posture, attack posture, or ready to mate posture. Since I didn't want to find out, I kept on swimming. I'm not sure which would have been scarier, being attacked or having a giant sea turtle with seaweed breath trying to mate with me. [Shudder]

Organizers Deluxe

Many, many thanks to Janet, Malcolm and Sandy who keep organized swimming alive and vibrant on Maui. Even though they love being out in the water, they were working the finish line of the 17th annual Swim for Your Heart 1 mile ocean swim race this morning. You guyz da bomb.

Irresistible
Just me and the blue sea. Again. Alone, alone, all, all alone...
Where did the whales and dolphins go? I couldn't go for a swim last month without them stopping by to say Hi! and now, not a word. Is it something I said? Or did?
Anyway, I had a great swim through chilly water this morning and know they'll come around again soon. They can't resist me.

Just Passing By

I was getting cold and tired after an hour and a half of deep water swimming this morning. They must have sensed my disappointment at having seen absolutely nothing during my swim, because a large group of Spinner Dolphins chose that moment to zoom by me. They passed by me like I had a rock tied around my waist, oh wait, I was lugging my kayak behind me. No wonder I couldn't keep up. It didn't matter, they made my day!

Huge Beach Wedding

It may not look like it, but this photo was of a large international event this morning.
The videographer provided live streaming video so that family and friends all over the world (especially Germany) were able to attend this Maui beach wedding. The best part - the guests did not have to deal with sand in their shoes!

Out and Back
Wind, waves and cold met me on my ocean swim this morning. As you can see, I'm back in my wetsuit and thermal rashguard. A whale kept teasing me out, out, out into deep water until a whale-watch boat zoomed up, and the whale disappeared. The long swim back to shore kept me from freezing solid and now, eight hours later, I'm finally getting warm again. Brrrr.

Mea Culpa

I take blame for all the alarms and sirens.
A good twenty mile per hour wind was blowing for part of my walk this morning, the ocean was white foam, and sand was blasting everyone on the beach. Then the wind died. The waters grew calm and it became a glorious day.
After about twenty minutes I realized that my hat's chin strap was still cinched down tight. Surely I didn't need it any more, so I loosened it. Bam! A huge gust of wind chose that exact moment to strike. House security alarms went off all along the beach and a few car alarms began wailing too. I bet if I had kept my hat tied to my head, the wind gust would never have happened. Anyway, quick reflexes allowed me to grab my hat before it sailed up into the trees...
