Everbody Hula Now

I love how cultural activities are a normal part of life here on Maui.

As I was walking into the movie theater today, I noticed that Te Tiare Patitifa halau was dancing at ground level and the entire audience was doing the hula on the stage. Isn't that how it is supposed to be?

Big Ficus

I love these big ficus trees in Wailea. I keep trying to talk the manager into planing some on our property, but so far no luck.

Not Complaining

While friends on the mainland are about to begin refusing offers of bags of zucchini, tomotaoes and other garden produce, we are currently overwhelmed by bananas and mangoes form our yard. Fortunately, this is the final bunch of bananas for a while, mangoes are just beginning to come ripe, and starfruit are not far behind. Not that I'm complaining...

Fishpipe

There's a new non-waterslide waterslide that I discovered on my walk this morning. It is a bubble suspended within a bubble and gives a big splashing ride using only a few gallons of water as the inside spins by at fifteen miles per hour. I'll let you know how it is once I get a chance to try it out.

Check it out at their website:

The Dolphin Ladies

I swam out to "the Aquarium", a formerly popular snorkel spot, this morning.

On the way I passed five Spinner Dolphins and two ladies who love the dolphins. Passionately. Never, ever do anything to disturb "their" dolphins or you risk serious harm from these ladies.

Patti & Janet Continue to Amaze

These are not my photos...

 Photos by Janet & Patti

My good friends, Patti & Janet, have been travelling through South America for the past year or two and continually get off the beaten track.

Their adventures are inspiring, frightening, and fun. I highly suggest following them on their blog at:

Feels So Good

It felt oh so good to get out into the ocean with my friends this morning and stretch my arms in a vigorous swim.

Crouton in Dolphin Soup

Today more than sixty Spinner Dolphins repeatedly swam past me during my morning ocean swim. At times I felt like a crouton floating in Dolphin soup.

Most of the dolphins were in sleep mode, but a few kept buzzing by me wanting to play. What a day!

I'm Being Followed

I've mentioned before how Maui's Spinner Dolphins seem to seek me out and follow me around. I even see them swimming back and forth in front of my house from time to time.

Yesterday I had to look twice when dolphin seemed to be following me in my car too. It was just a construction truck and they were bottlenose dolphins not spinners. Still...

Below I snapped this on my walk this morning because I liked the way the Monkeypod tree looked among the Bougainvilla.

Something to See

I love swimming in Maui's waters, there is always something interesting to see. Even though the water was not very clear this morning, I still saw lots of turtles and fish.

Absolutely Obsessed

I thought that little girls were supposed to be fascinated by ponies and horses. Not yesterday. Two very young ladies were absolutely obsessed with Spinner Dolphins.

And the interest was thoroughly reciprocated as thirty-some dolphins could not bring themselves to go more than a few yards from these girls and their mom.

Epically Awesome

Today was my BEST birthday EVER!

It started out with thirty-plus Spinner Dolphins and my husband, and ended with us at an epically awesome movie called "This is the End". And there was lots of fun and interesting stuff inbetween. I decided to not spend my special day sitting in front of a computer, so I only took the time to process these three photographs. The rest will have to wait until tomorrow.

Life could not possibly be any better.

Shore Huggers

Dolphins kept breifly joining me on my ocean swim this morning - and then they would disappear.

I discovered that they were hugging the shore, which is unusual for them, and occasionally swimming out to say "Hi!" to me in the deeper, clearer water.

Trouble with a Capital T

This morning I encountered one of my favorite mischief-makers. All you have to do is look into her eyes to know that trouble is coming. The good kind, of course.

Fun Little Current

The ocean was perfect this morning. Warm, clear and flat. We even had a fun little current to challenge us on our return swim.

No Place Like It

There's no place like home. There's no place like home. There's no place like home.

And it certainly doesn't hurt when home is Maui.

Above and Below

Even though the surf has been up this week, the water is surprisingly clear and swimable.

Normally, scuba divers are oblivious to anything but what is below them, but this morning this group saw me coming from way off. I guess they were fascinated by my sexy haircut.

So Much Cooler

It was that time of year again, time for my annual haircut. I feel so much cooler.

Driving Without Headlights

The scariest part of last night's photo shoot on the top of the volcano was driving the dangerous narrow road without headlights. Fortunately, because it was pitch black night, I could not see what was over the edge of the cliff to my left. On the other hand when it came time to park off the road, I wasn't absolutely positive the place I was pulling off was an actual place.

Glowing Balls

Last night we played Bocci Ball under the stars.

A good friend has a set which has internal light bulbs and they glow in the dark. The blue and red are actually a bit trippy and mess with the brain, but the game was a blast. You can see the balls at the bottom of the photo above.

Then this morning I got to walk the dogs with other good friends. What a treat.

Finally, a dip in the ocean was a perfect way to end my morning.

No Nonsense Swimmers

The Maui Pink Cap Swimmers were off on another no-nonsense, no play ocean adventure this morning.

Sometimes, it's all about the exercise.

Vibrating Air

On a hazy morning like today, the colors of bougainvilla cause the air to vibrate with their intensity.
