Into the Woods

Maui's Pink Cap swimmers opted to avoid the risk of getting stung by Box Jellyfish this Sunday, and hiked through the Makawao Forest Reserve instead.

The top photo is a carefully put together composite of multiple photos in which all non-couples were safely distant from each other.

I keep forgetting how many different magical places we have on Maui. Maui no ka oi.

Smokey Skies

Yesterday's big brush fire helped the afternoon sun create some glorious angel rays.

Night and Day

I am confined to getting most of my exercise in the evenings these days. The views across the ocean are far more dramatic with the sun glaring off the water and lots of heat clouds; not like this morning with lots of glorious color.

Yesterday, Doug and I ventured up the mountain to hike in the rare treat of a cool deciduous forest. Yes, I love being surrounded by palm trees, warmth and sunshine; but walking through a chilly mist brought fond memories of growing up in the midwest.

Love in New Times

The big birthday gift this year seems to be the covid-19 mask. Carl and Kim, who have been married forever, happen to have the same birthday and were given matching masks for their solstice birthday celebration.

Doug and I walked south along the shore Saturday instead of my usual northerly stroll.

Brief Foray

It feels like I have not been in the ocean in ages.

It is early winter down near New Zealand and their winter storms bring big waves on our south shores - which translates to murky waters. But clarity was good enough yesterday for at least a brief foray into the ocean.

Mailboxes

I always thought we had rather nice mailboxes here in Makena, so on my most recent walk I took this series of photographs of our mailboxes.

It felt so darned good to be out in the ocean again this past Sunday. My crazy job has gotten in the way of my visiting all the swimming critters, human and otherwise.

Click HERE for a couple more photos from Sunday's ocean swim.
