Spooky Cacti

I've just returned from two weeks in southern Arizona where the cactus rules the landscape. 

I especially enjoyed these Halloween cacti.

Jen's Birthday Surprise

Jen chose a different location for her birthday swim this past Sunday, and what a great choice! Shortly after we began we were swarmed by over forty spinner dolphins. We hung with them briefly, then headed off our way while they went theirs.

Crazy Kids

I ran into Matt and Andrea out in the ocean this morning. They were relaxing with what they considered to be a short swim after swimming the entire distance from the island of Lanai to Maui yesterday. Crazy kids!

There were also lots of turtles and an eagle ray, plus all the usual hordes of fishies.

Due to a late season south swell, visibility was fairly poor Sunday. But we swam anyway. 

While taking the group photo, many of the swimmers couldn't even see me, but the camera sees all :-)

A Million Years

Maui's Pink Cap swimmers headed all the way up to Honolua Bay this past Sunday to explore some new terrain. It is amazing what a difference a million years can make to how the island looks.

Togetherness

Our usually solitary turtles were hanging out together this morning. 

And this ray kept swimming up to me.

 

Desert and Jungle

Yes, we have cactus plants growing wild on Maui. They dot the former cattle grazing grounds along with our version of mesquite, the kiawe.

Nice puddle reflections this morning and Shower Trees are still loaded with summer blossoms.
