Happy Wet Mother's Day

The Maui Pink Cap swimmers gathered to celebrate Mother's Day the way we know best, by getting wet. Visibility wasn't great, but it was doable and we had lots of fun.

Among the Turtles

Ocean visibility has been quite poor this past week, but I thought it was clear enough for a short swim this morning.

And I'm glad I got out there among the turtles and fishies.

Horrific Consequences

We skipped mango gathering one day and this (top photo) was the horrific consequence of our negligence.

I pass this beautiful lady (bottom photo) most days on my walk. I told her that I love her sense of style and she replied that dressing up makes her smile. Seeing her always makes me smile too.

What Storm?

A storm passed through last night and many of the Maui Pink Cap swimmers were concerned that conditions would not be amenable for an ocean swim. Boy were they ever wrong. We had non-stop sunshine, the water felt warmer, and underwater visibility was better than usual.

I Heard Wrong

When she arrived on Maui last Saturday, my sister informed me that she hated snorkeling.

I must have heard her wrong because I couldn't get her out of the ocean from in front of my house this morning.

Today is her last full day on Maui and I'm going to miss her after she leaves tomorrow morning.

The Adventures Continue

 Thursday my sister, Lauren, and I made the looonnnggg drive to Hana and beyond. In fact we continued all the way around the south end of Maui where I discovered that the paved road goes a lot farther than used to be the case.

We encountered numerous waterfalls which were flowing strongly due to intermittent rain showers, but we also saw lots of sunshine.

 We got to hike through a big bamboo forest, and came across a huge Banyan tree.

We cooled down on our way home with a brisk swim under the falls at Alele.

All in all we had a wonderful day, and I slept really well last night.

Chilly

My sister's first-ever visit to Maui is helping me to rediscover my island home.

Wednesday found us trekking to the top of Haleakala, leaving 82 degree temperatures behind for a chilly 52 degrees at the summit.
