Fully Lit

The skies were briefly overcast one day recently and I loved the way the sky and ocean became one.

Last night's fingernail moon was clearly lit up in its entirety.

My evening walks are definitely more colorful than my morning walks ever were.

Turtles Turtles Everywhere

 After a period of turtle scarcity, it feels good to be back in the middle of turtle soup once again. Turtles, turtles everywhere.

Lobsters and Pink Caps

The Maui Pink Caps' youngest swimmer, Olivia, did the full swim for the first time Sunday - and discovered a treasure trove of lobsters. Well, the molted exoskeletons of lobsters.

The ensuing Lobster Theater and stylish Lobster Hats provoked laughs all around.

Why the Huddle

We're still getting some unbelievable sunsets. Definitely not every night, but often enough to keep us from sitting indoors before the teevee every evening.

I couldn't figure out the reason for the huddle right away.

Some of the oceanfront lawn sunset dinners are more extravagant than others.

Wrong Again

I saw lots and lots and lots of Green Sea Turtles on my after-work swim yesterday. Usually, I only seen one or two, but they were everywhere.

I took a selfie at the beginning of the swim because I wasn't expecting to get any other photos, I'm glad I was wrong.

Too Warm?

Maui's Pink Cap swimmers once again had spectacular conditions with nice cozy clear warm water. In fact, it was so warm, we felt no need to return to shore and spent lots and lots of time chatting about this and that. It wasn't until hunger hit that we finally headed to shore.

Outdoor Chaandeliers

Almost every Saturday in south Kihei, people line up to buy whole huli-huli chickens from a street vendor.

There was a lot of elaborate setup at one of the Wailea resorts for a pretty swanky wedding tonight. The reception site on a beach-front lawn includes an open air ballroom with lots and lots of crystal chandeliers.

Throw-net fishermen are incredibly patient, waiting and waiting for a school of fish to swim by.

Tranquility

The ocean was choppy for my after work swim today, but it didn't matter because I really needed the release that an ocean swim gives me. And underneath the waves, everything was tranquil and perfect.

Someone to Watch Over Me

There was a moment of calm yesterday afternoon, when the winds briefly died, and I managed to get out into the ocean for a swim. And then they picked up again. It was a struggle getting home, but at least I had an escort. The turtle in the bottom photo swam along side me almost the entire way back. I love being watched over by my ocean friends.

Wait for It

Last night was yet another example of why patience can be a valued trait. The actual setting of the sun was nice, but nothing special. Half an hour later, however, was glorious. There is no way photographs ever do the real thing justice.

Wrong Direction

On my evening walks after I get off work, I notice that lots and lots of people gather at the various beaches to watch the sun set.

The other evening they were all looking in the wrong direction. No one even thought to look in the exact opposite direction where a stunning rainbow crossed a huge swath of sky.

Early Thanksgiving

It seems that tomorrow is Thanksgiving in Canada and, even though we're on Maui, we had a lot to be thankful for this morning.

We saw lots of friendly turtles and had exceptional swimming conditions.

Mister Cool

Who needs swim goggles when you look this cool :-)

This is my first-ever pair of RayBan Wayfarers which were found, just like I find lots of cool stuff, on the ocean floor.

Horray, I managed to get in two (count 'em - two) ocean swims after work this week. That does mean I'm doing evening swims, which is getting into feeding time for the sharks, but so far no problems.

Almost Run Over

What a treat. I managed a non-Sunday swim again this week while the winds were down yesterday evening.

Every turtle but one swam up to me, closer and closer and closer. I did a lot of backpedaling to keep from getting run over.

This morning the Maui Pink Cap swimmers celebrated the birthdays of Jen and DB with a lovely ocean swim down at Keoneoio.

Staring People

Strange autumn weather continues to bring us dramatic sunsets and even sudden little downpours. Never a dull moment.

Several of the Wailea resorts offer private oceanfront dining. Well, private except for the steady stream of people walking by staring at you. Still, pretty cool.
