Mostly Oblivious
Normally, the Great Pacific Barracudas that I see are quite timid, but this one wasn't afraid of me in the least. That might have something to do with its size, it was better than a meter long.
On the other hand, the White Tip Reef Shark I saw later this morning was quite shy.
And Green Sea Turtles are still mostly oblivious.

Underwater Swish
I think it's really cool being in the middle of a bait ball of fish. It's tough getting a photo because the fish are moving so quickly and constantly changing direction. But each time they switch to a new heading, I can clearly hear an underwater "swish" sound. These thousands of fish were tightly packed together because they were being hunted by a couple of jacks and a big barracuda.

Blood was Involved
My better half actually took the national holiday off from work today, which is pretty much unheard of.
That gave us an opportunity to hike from our house southward. Partway around the base of the pu'u we were trapped by a set of big waves and made a somewhat harrowing escape. Blood was involved, but only barely.

Good Deed
Some of my ocean buddies found a Triton which had been wedged tight in a small crevasse the past couple of days, and decided to rescue it.
They carefully unstuck it, then moved it to a new, safer locale.

Ladies and Dolphins
This morning the ocean was filled with dolphins, dolphins and more dolphins, and two lovely ladies as well.

Lots of Birthdays
The Maui Pink Cap swimmers helped both George and Patti celebrate their respective birthdays with a lovely ocean swim this morning.
It is a joy being able to once again see long distances through exceptionally clear water, and getting to visit lots and lots of Green Sea Turtles.

Great and Not So Great
The water was clear and beautiful out at the Aquarium this morning, but not so great on the way out or back.
Nonetheless, we were thrilled by a surprise visit from over thirty Spinner Dolphins on our return to shore.

Photobombing Turtle
It was turtle soup out there this morning. Everywhere I looked there were turtles and more turtles.
At one point after tiring of all the turtles, I decided to take a photo of a school of fish, and was photobombed by yet another turtle.

Delightfully Bizarre
We enjoyed watching delightfully bizarre cloud formations at sunset yesterday.
And then the sky got intensely reddish. I love watching fireworks and sunsets. I say "Ooohhhh" at lot at both.

Happy Wet Mother's Day
The Maui Pink Cap swimmers gathered to celebrate Mother's Day the way we know best, by getting wet. Visibility wasn't great, but it was doable and we had lots of fun.

Among the Turtles
Ocean visibility has been quite poor this past week, but I thought it was clear enough for a short swim this morning.
And I'm glad I got out there among the turtles and fishies.

Horrific Consequences
We skipped mango gathering one day and this (top photo) was the horrific consequence of our negligence.
I pass this beautiful lady (bottom photo) most days on my walk. I told her that I love her sense of style and she replied that dressing up makes her smile. Seeing her always makes me smile too.

What Storm?
A storm passed through last night and many of the Maui Pink Cap swimmers were concerned that conditions would not be amenable for an ocean swim. Boy were they ever wrong. We had non-stop sunshine, the water felt warmer, and underwater visibility was better than usual.
