Three and Twenty-Four

I ran into three visitors and twenty-four Spinner Dolphins out in the ocean this morning.

I believe that a great time was had by all.

Maui's Pink Cap Swimmers were glad to have braved strong winds and pouring rain this morning because we spotted our first-ever Sea Snake! How cool is that?

We were also treated to a brilliant rainbow and numerous other creatures.

Huli Huli Chicken

If you're looking for Huli-Huli Chicken, you can find it at the corner of Keonekai and South Kihei Road.

What better way to spend a Saturday morning than by sitting on the lawn and watching the world pass by?

Skin Tight

I had a lovely swim with the ladies out in clear, clear water this morning.

Janet modeled her new skin-tight wetsuit, which was still too baggy for her taste.

I even made it into one of the photos.

Vacation's Over

Maui's Spinner Dolphins appear to have returned from an extended vacation.

All I can say is, "Welcome Home."

Twenty-four of them swam with me and a couple from Alaska via Lahaina.

Just your average January 22nd on Maui.

Lovely Serenade

I had a lovely swim this morning; serenaded constantly by numerous whales singing loudly.

Final Adventure

Our final adventure of Mike & Nina's visit involved beer tasting at Maui Brewing Company.

Dolphins and Mainlanders

The fun and adventures continued with Doug, Mike, Nina, and hordes of Spinner Dolphins this morning.

This has been one of the best visits by mainlanders ever.

Wet On Purpose

Doug and I had a blast this morning hiking into the hills along the north shore with his brother and sister-in-law.

And the only time we intentionally got wet was when we actually wanted to - or at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Too Close for Comfort

I was paddling to shore with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law this morning when two whales suddenly popped up between us. We were all taken completely by surprise. I stuck my camera over the side of the kayak while the closest whale carefully maneuvered its fluke to avoid hitting me. I was a bit scared and we were all thrilled by their unexpected appearance.

Three Humpback Whales

I paddled out to a group of kayaks this morning and proceeded to be repeatedly approached by three Humpback Whales. We were able to simply sit in place and be entertained for almost an hour.

I love living on Maui.

Deep Deep Deep

Many of us were worried about poor water clarity this morning and several people chose not to swim. Indeed, conditions sucked until we got out deep, deep, deep and then it was glorious.

Spectator Sport

Surf was up along the south shore this morning and both surfers and spectators were out in force.

I love living on Maui.

Putting on a Show

Two Humpback Whales were putting on a show for an entire flotilla (mostly at a respectful distance which is why they are not seen in these photos) of kayaks, outrigger canoes, and stand-up-paddlers.

38 Spinner Dolphins joined Maui's Mermaids for a swim this morning. What a treat - my favorite two creatures interacting with each other.

The Maui Pink Cap Swimmers celebrated Coach Malcolm's 60th birthday with a fun ocean swim this morning. Happy Birthday, Malcolm.

We were serenaded throughout by choruses of Humpback Whales and were even treated to a spectacular double breach (not caught by my camera).

Click HERE for several more photographs of today's adventure.

Must be a Parade

If a bunch of floats go marching past, then it must be a parade. Right?

Gargantuan Butterfly To Be

I loved the way the early morning sun raked across the leaves of this agave plant and the shadows it cast.

I almost stepped on the largest caterpillar I've ever seen. What kind of gargantuan butterfly will this produce?

Red vs. Yellow

It is always a treat seeing one of the critically endangered Hawksbill Sea Turtles in my back yard. This one was happily munching away on sponges.

This school of Halfbeaks circled me this morning. They were much larger than the ones I'm accustomed to seeing.

I've often noticed a difference in coloration between different schools of Goatfish, but this morning was especially noticeable when one school swam past the other.
