Like Flying
The Maui Pink Cap Swimmers had such perfectly clear water yesterday that the entire swim was more like flying than swimming.
In addition to a Spotted Eagle Ray we saw four different Helmet mollusks.

Dead Cat
There's always something interesting going on at the beach.
I assumed that the lady in the top photo was getting photos done to promote a product she created. Nope. It was all about her dead cat and a burial at sea.
I love the colors at the beach. This was the first pink parasol I've noticed.
And there is always a wedding going on somewhere.

Too Many Turtles
This morning's ocean swim was an experience of Turtles, Turtles, and more Turtles - oh, and some Mermaids too.
It also didn't hurt that the water was super-clear. It isn't often that we get such an extraordinary degree of visibility.

Falling Coconuts
Snapshots from my walk along the shore this morning.
There is always a wedding somewhere along the shore.
The warning sign says nothing about falling coconuts.
People love to stack rocks and leave their leis in conspicuous places.

Welcoming Bevy
Maui's Mermaids welcomed me with open arms this morning.
We swam through water both shallow and deep, and even saw some fish we had never seen before.

Shady Spot
Just a few snapshots from my walk this morning.
It is the height of summer and people love floating in the warm, clear ocean water.
But it is never too hot here, and I'm perfectly happy in any shady spot with a little breeze.

Three Waves
The Sunday morning swimmers headed out in three waves this morning: Pedro's Birthday Party, the Prodigals' Return Group, and the Sunday Sleep-In Teacher's Group.
And we all had a blast.

The Wall
A few Maui Mermaids allowed me to join them on their swim to the Wall this morning. The Wall is truly a wall, an impressive tall vertical wall rising directly from the sea bottom and made of columnular lava.
We also saw three of these brilliantly colored fish at the shore where we began. We've never seen these before. What are they?

Birthday Adventures
I got to help celebrate several birthdays Tuesday on the island of Lanai.
Maui's Mermaids (and friends) were there in force for a wonderful, waterful day.

People and More People
After two weeks of abundant wildlife, the Maui Pink Cap swimmers saw not much more than people, people and more people on our weekly swim this morning.

Float and Watch
I love swimming in the ocean even more at this time of year. While the water is not usually as clear as in the winter, it is warm, warm, warm. So I don't feel driven to keep moving to stay warm, and can lazily float and watch all kinds of underwater critters as they swim by.

Two Selfies plus Color
Just a few random shots from my beach walk this morning.
This tree perch is always a popular spot for selfies.
This family was doing a self portrait with use of a tripod. My apologies for stealing focus as I walked by.
And always lots of color along the shore.

Wind Chimes and Mermaids
I had a delightful run-in with a few Mermaids on my ocean swim this morning. They're everywhere.
The way Emperorfish school vertically makes me think of wind chimes rotating in the breeze.
These are fresh turtle tracks in the sand. We now have three nests this season all within a hundred yards of each other.

Anne's Birthday Swim with the Rays
The Maui Pink Cap Swimmers celebrated Anne's Birthday with visits from at least six different Spotted Eagle Rays and at least two different Manta Rays, plus all the other usual suspects.
Click HERE for more photos of the people and critters who were part of the fun.

Plumeria Time
Summertime seems to also be Plumeria time.
It also seems to be a popular time to visit Wailea beach.

Scoop Formation
This friendly Manta Ray swam with me this morning.
You can see it in two different modes of operation. Its mouth is closed down while in travel mode (top photo), and opened up into a scoop formation while in feeding mode (bottom photo).
