Guerrilla Photography
Due to strict rules for doing commercial photography and videography on the beaches, guerrilla filmmakers sneak onto the beaches early to get their shots.
I was happy getting my shots underwater this morning, where I did not need any permits or licenses.

Crumbling Cinder Faces
Clear water has returned and I had a glorious ocean swim this morning.
I heard voices as I was swimming around the 500 foot high cinder cone, Pu'u Olai, this morning. A couple of guys were climbing the cinder outcroppings and faces - never a good idea. Fortunately, everything stayed put today.
I've been seeing lots and lots of Cornetfish. This school numbered twenty-four.

Autumnal Clearing
Finally! The ocean cleared up significantly in the last few days and visibility was good enough that we were even able to see a few critters.
Including the endangered Hawksbill Turtle in the middle photograph.

Minor Imperfection
Waves were still crashing this morning, but underwater everything was smooth sailing.
Of course, the renewed ocean swell has maintained the poor visibility below the surface; but there has to be some minor imperfection in paradise.

Slowly, Slowly, Slowly
Slowly, slowly, slowly visibility is improving in South Maui waters.
The ocean also seems to be cooling down just a little. Winter is on its way.

Final Sunday of Summer
Nice warm water marked the final swim of summer for the Maui Pink Cap Swimmers.
Unfortunately, visibility was considerably less than optimal, but that didn't keep us from having a great time in the silky ocean water.

No Runoff
Visibility was way less than optimal this morning. We have not had any runoff in South Maui from the recent rain storms, but have had lots of crashing surf.

On That Horse
After an extremely unpleasant ocean swimming experience last week, it was important for the Maui Pink Cap Swimmers to get right back on that horse.
And it was great. The water felt like warm silk and, except for a little murk near the start, conditions were exquisite.

Funeral Procession
I was impressed by how well these ants were working together to move this dead frog. Especially since they were hauling it vertically up the side of a curb.

Hard Shell
The surf's been up the past several days, which makes for fun times playing in the waves, especially if you've got a hard shell to protect yourself.

Worst Ocean Swim Ever
What looked at first glance to be the absolutely perfect morning for an ocean swim turned into a painful scramble to be first out of the water.
The Maui Pink Cap Swimmers stumbled into a huge mass of jellyfish, with their tentacles leaving painful welts over almost everyone's exposed areas of skin. Although Howard came in a close second, Lisa won for largest number of most severe stings.

Consistently Lucky
I do not know why we here on Maui's south shore are so consistently lucky, but both hurricanes passed us by without so much as a single drop of rain or gust of wind. So life continues on just as it always does here in paradise...

No Discernible Effect
Drone On and On
Once upon a time we used to take family self-portraits using a tripod. No more. The trendy dad brings his drone copter in close to get the job done (top photo).
Professional photographers have been doing "trash the dress" photo shoots after the wedding, but usually while the photographer stands on shore. This guy was a lot more involved, getting into the water with the newlyweds (middle photo).
We had more spectacular skies again last night (bottom photo).
