Colorful Drama
I didn't take any interesting photographs today, so I thought I'd post these three photographs from one of my local Koi ponds which I took on Thursday.
I'm loving the dramatic look that I get by simply shoving the "black" slider all the way to the left. Such an easy technique while keeping the integrity of the photo intact.

Huaka‘i ‘O Na Wa‘a
A small flotilla of outrigger canoes arrived at Wailea beach before sunrise this morning as part of the Journey of Canoes celebration.
Those of us waiting on shore took part in a traditional Hawaiian sunrise chant, and more chanting took place from both on shore and from the canoes.
I love living on Maui.

Aloha Courtney
I always enjoy spending time with Courtney when she is on island. Add to that a beautiful sunset on the beach and a delicious barbecue, and we got an evening that couldn't be beat.
A hui hou, Courtney.

Playground Fun
The occasional big wave set brought our swimming playground to life this morning. We certainly know how to have fun.
Meanwhile everything was calm below the surface.

Taking My Time
The speedsters quickly left the fun crew in their wake this morning. It's true that there wasn't a whole lot to see considering the poor visibility, so taking time to enjoy the swim did not make sense to everyone. But taking my time always makes sense to me.

Outdoors and Only Outdoors
Getting outdoors is what life is about here on Maui.
I can't imagine exercising indoors. Once upon a time in my dark ages I went to indoor gyms and pools, but my mind boggles at the thought of doing so now.
And who could possibly do yoga anywhere but under the open sky?

Land People
This morning we had one of those idyllic swims where the temperature was perfect, the sun was shining and the water was clear. In fact we did not want to get out of the water and become land people once again.

Anchors Aweigh
In spite of the occasional big wave set rolling in we had another perfect Maui Pink Cap swim day.
We swam from buoy to buoy and explored their various anchors. All were too big to lift, even with everyone trying.

Three Point Parking
Maui has the worst drivers I've ever encountered, but they often cause me to chuckle. I deal with them by always driving super, super defensively.
I had to laugh at this woman attempting to parallel park this morning. At one point she had three out of four wheels on the grass before finally settling back onto the street.
Cafe O'Lei makes a great veggie sandwich. Yum.
Ominous clouds briefly formed over my house while I was out walking, but soon burned off and now the skies are once again cloudless.

Water and Smoke
Lots of rain has been falling on the windward side of the island, which means that streams and waterfalls are flowing nicely.
Smoke from the Pu'unene sugar mill was spectacular against the dark rainy skies.

Wet and Dry
I had a perfect morning for an ocean swim today, so I took full advantage of the glassy, clear water.
I didn't notice the hermit crabs until I was on shore drying off.

Shooting Fish
I couldn't resist shooting these Koi during my morning walk today.
This guy's hair caught my eye from far, far away and I had to get a candid shot.
I saw lots of construction workers in precarious places working on the new Wailea Courtyard Inn.

Spa Day at the Ocean
We saw lots of fishies, lots of turtles and a group of reef researchers on our ocean swim this morning.
Conditions were so very nice that we didn't actually get much swimming in, it was more of a spa day meandering.

Two Views of Reality
I took these two photos a few minutes apart from different locations along the Kihei shore.
The black & white version emphasizes how dark and threatening the rain clouds were, but the color version more accurately reflects the hot and hazy conditions of the day as it was away from the clouds.
Both are perfectly valid in their own ways.

Another Sunday Swim
Only a small group turned out for an excellent ocean swim this morning.
