Long Legged Beauty

Wading birds of necessity have long legs, but when standing on land they look almost grotesque.

Sunny Rain

I got to photograph the Ka'anapali Beach Hotel one day last week, and rain fell without cease. Fortunately, since this is Maui, we also got many moments of sunshine. Rainy sunshine, but sunshine nonetheless. I may not have gotten my trademark "blue skies and oceans" photographs, but I managed to get close.

Happy Birthday Christine

 Wonder Woman, Christine, was out making a difference in the world today, as she does every day.

She celebrated another orbit around the sun today by cleaning up the reef, keeping us laughing, and inspiring us to be better people.

Quick Walk

 I only managed a quick walk around the neighborhood this morning as a break from way tooooooooooo much work.

The flowers from the top are: Shell Ginger, Bougainvillea, and Plumeria.

The Right Thing to Do

While photographing The Plantation Inn in Lahaina yesterday, I was asked to show their poolside breakfast area. And since I knew that Earth Day was coming up, I decided to do the right thing and conserve resources by eating the display French Toast. It was definitely the right thing to do.

New Swimmer

 Showing off the ocean for a new swimmer is always fun; but introducing a young new swimmer is best of all.

We had a great time with Olivia this morning and are looking forward to many more swims with her.

Calm then Crazy

My swim started off beautifully at La Perouse this morning; until the winds began howling and getting back to shore was a struggle.

Still, I got to see lots of fish and four spotted eagle rays, so it was definitely worth a little discomfort.

A recent attempt at eradication of the invasive Peacock Grouper has yet to succeed, you can spot one in the bottom right of the last photo.

I Could Live Here

I get to photograph the coolest homes. This is from today's shoot. I could live here.

So Long, Farewell

 Several of our Sunday Pink Cap Swimmers are temporarily heading off for adventures elsewhere, so today was our chance to say goodbye for now.

Brazilian Vanity

 Both Brazilian & Northern Cardinals like to hang out at the La Perouse parking lot; but the Brazilian Cardinals are far more vain. They love to perch on the side view mirrors of parked cars and admire their reflections.

Guaranteed Surfing

 I counted 135 people out on boards as I walked past the Cove this morning, which is where people learn to surf on Maui's south side. There you can always find small waves which run forever. All you need to do is point a long surfboard toward shore and you will ride all the way in.

Lessons are given all along the shore like the one in the second photo. The instructors then go out with you and they guarantee that you will stand up and ride a wave.

Obliviously Happy

 I love swimming in the ocean. There are almost always things to watch, which this morning were many schools of fishies.

Some people in the same area said they saw dolphins; but I was obliviously happy just hanging with the fishes.

Quirky Home

 I just finished a photo shoot of a beautiful and quirky Upcountry home and thought I'd post a few black and white versions just for the fun of it.

The house was constructed with many unusual materials, many of them created by the home's owner.

I have a great life.

New Swimmer Craziness

 I love introducing new people to our ocean playground, and Arden was a great sport about it this morning.

We dragged her a little too far, but she loved getting thrown around by waves crashing against the far cliffs.

Visit from the Easter Bunny

 What a great week.

It started with Manta Rays, continued with Spinner Dolphins, then climaxed with the Maui Pink Cap Swimmers and the Easter Bunny.

Great Friday

 This wasn't just a Good Friday - this was a GREAT Friday.

Twenty-five Spinner Dolphins joined me on my swim this morning and kept me and two of my friends company for almost an hour.

I love my life.

Monochromatic Beauty

 Palm flowers go mostly unnoticed (maybe because they're usually so high up above the ground?) but are quite beautiful in a monochromatic way. Even though people don't seem to appreciate them, honeybees sure do.

And today was a perfect day for very young children to enjoy the ocean. Which means that I had a great time.

Epic Swim

 Patti, Janet and I had an epic swim today.

We had clear water and experienced Manta Rays, Spotted Eagle Ray, Green Sea Turtles, Octopi, Silverbacks, Caves and too many Fishies to mention.
