Not Needless
While it certainly feels great being back on Maui, I do miss the pristinely clear water and preponderance of sea life on Lanai. Maui is inbetween the overdevelopment of Oahu and the mostly unspoiled nature of Lanai.
We did see a huge school of Needlefish on this morning's ocean swim.

One Week Late
Finally!
I am one week late, but I finally had a moment to process the photos from Janet's Birthday Weekend on Lanai.
About time!

House Guest
It felt like summer today - hot and sunny. Well, the water still has a chill to it, but it was calm and clear, perfect for swimming.
Bruce had a house guest today. The more the merrier.

Perfect Day
We are sitting on the beach watching the sun set after a perfect day. Camping on the beach is such a treat, especially on the island of Lanai.

True Friends
My so called human "friends" blew me off from a swim date this morning.
Thankfully, my true friends, Maui's Spinner Dolphins, joined me for the beginning and end of my ocean swim. How considerate.

Only Time for Work
Sorry, but I've been so crazy busy with work that all I can manage to post is one of the work photos I took yesterday. It looks like it should be easy to get a shot like this, but there is quite a bit of work involved, including lighting each of the interior spaces so that they aren't dark blobs.

Wrong Direction
I'm not a very good tour guide.
I promised Janet & Patti to take them to the Pinnacle this morning, and instead we wound up at a cave through the cliffs of Moria. Fortunately, no orcs this time...
It was fun swimming an area we haven't been to in ages and a competition pod of whales even swam by.

Tree Down
Recent big winds have left a few victims in their wake. Happily this was the only monkeypod tree down in Wailea as far as I could tell.
I have never seen a Banyan tree uprooted. But how could one be with that many roots?
And all these giant ficus trees in Wailea seemed fine as well.

Crazy Windy
Winds were howling crazy strong and it seemed that an ocean swim would be out of the question this morning; but when has nasty weather ever stopped Maui's Pink Cap swimmers?
Fortunately, a short drive down the coast found the only calm spot on the entire island. Plus, the water was delightfully clear and we had the ocean entirely to ourselves - even the tour boats didn't dare venture out.

Run - Don't Walk
I'm glad I glanced out my window this morning, because I saw the most vivid, stunning rainbow. I didn't walk. I ran to get my camera and then was out the front door and snapping away. Lucky we live Hawaii.

Nothing to Say
Hmmm. I have nothing to say today. I just thought I would post a couple of snapshots from my walk along the ocean this morning.

Thursday at Home
I popped over to my next door neighbor's house a minute ago and have to say that their view is definitely better than mine.

Amorphous Blob
I encountered this amorphous blob this morning during my ocean swim this morning. Closer examination revealed floral and ti leaf leis tangled together floating on the surface.
Visitors to Maui are told that throwing leis into the ocean upon departure will ensure their return to the island. They also need to be told to cut and remove the strings first to prevent entrapment of sea life in the leis. Not to worry, these leis were fished out of the ocean to safeguard our critters.
A rock balancer was back at work recently. There were only two rocks in each stack, but even that is quite impressive to me.

Niles is Not a River
Welcome back to Maui, Dennis. I know it is only for a visit, but we've missed you and it was great to see you again.
We also thoroughly enjoyed sharing our Sunday morning swim with a lovely trio from Canadaland.
Click HERE for a few more photos from today's ocean swim.
Oh by the way, Niles is a town in SW Michigan. Also, a welcome to our newest Pink Cap Swimmer. You are a great addition to our group, Ellis.

Down & Up
These are my neighbors just six houses down the street. We have the better scenic view but they get to watch wave after wave of kayakers pass by every morning.
And then there's the view uphill. Above us are golf courses and then ranchland almost all the way to the summit.

A Quiet Farewell
This morning the Maui Pink Cap swimmers gathered in spite of rain, wind and crashing waves to say farewell to one of our own.
We will miss you, Kathleen.
